My dear Annie,

here is the letter which I hope will do the trick at the consulate.
I emphasized the two year period which may help.  Let me know immediately
if there is any problem and I will write directly to someone in the
consulate (get an appropriate name).  I had no trouble getting a residence.

I wrote to Bachauer asking for confirmation of his plans for this and/or
next year.  I have not heard from him yet.

Keep any money that I left with you.  There may be another bill for the
telephone unless that bill went through the end of March.  Anything left
over, as I told you, keep for your trip.

I don't care at all that you have keys to the studio (you  are not my
child for whom I must feel responsible).  Is it still cold in Berlin so
that you need the heat?  It is beautifully warm here- like summer.

I am busy doing uninteresting administrative work for the most part, but
once we get the center going I will have more free time.

I have stopped smoking (now that it does not look like I will do much traveling)
and I feel much better!  The children have been well-educated against it
and make me feel like a criminal when I smoke.  So... FINISHED
